A tale of meeting the Devil and the deal going south.

I went up to Oregon to find the Devil's lair
He'd been kicked out of the south, I heard he'd gone up there
So I went up to Oregon, to see what I could find
I found myself lost, alone there between the pines
The trees stretched on forever, rows going out of sight
The sun sank down in the sky it was cold and dark at night
But the Devil stood between the trees
He laughed and he called my name
I took my gun out from its pack
I held it and went to aim

And as I got him in my sights
I couldn't believe I see
I shook my head
No, I looked again
Well the Devil looked like me

He said
You shoot me down and I'll fuck you up
Make sure you were never born
I'll break your bones and I'll steal your wife
And I'll go burn down your home
Take one more step and see what happens
You know it won't end well
Come over here and I'll do you in
And I'll drag you down to hell

As he said it I held my aim pointed at his face
He had my mouth and my nose and my eyes
But they all looked misplaced
The teeth were jagged, the nose was crooked, the eyes were glowing red
He looked like me and had my voice
But there were horns upon that head

I let two bullets fly, both hit their mark
He didn't flinch
He didn't stop
He just began to laugh

He said
You shoot me down so I'll fuck you up
Make sure you were never born
I'll break your bones and I'll steal your wife
And I'll go burn down your home
Take one more step and see what happens

I dug my own grave that night
Deep between the trees
My bodys still in Oregon
And the Devil pretends he's me

He say's
